Dick Arnold Habitat Board President, announces the name change of Newberry Habitat to La Pine Sunriver Habitat at the annual luncheon.

At the recent awards luncheon, Board president Dick Arnold announced that the Newberry Habitat affiliate is going through the steps to change the official name to La Pine Sunriver Habitat for Humanity.

For many years most of the fundraising and building of new homes has been located in the La pine area and with so many volunteers from both communities working together through the ReStore and the Home Owner Program, the Habitat Board discussed the name of the affiliate and decided that a change to include the names of both of the communities that support the Habitat Mission in South County, would be more representative of what the organization represents.

Habitat believes that people deserve to live in Safe and affordable homes and they have created a program the helps qualified buyers achieve the American Dream of home ownership. There are over thirty homes in the south county that have been built by volunteers and donations through the last decade plus. It is always the height of each building season when the keys are handed to a new homeowner in the community and it perpetuates the successful endeavors of the Habitat program!

Habitat International offers a variety of ways that you can help the organization. You can donate cash. You can donate gently used items for the resale in the La Pine ReStore. You can volunteer for work at the La Pine Restore (541-536-3234). You can volunteer to help on the new home construction crews by calling Dan Varcoe, the coordinator of volunteers for our Habitat affiliate here in south county. Just call him at 541-771-9177 to get current information each week for Friday and Saturday hours at the build sites.

Do you want to explore applying for the homeowner program? You can pick up and application right inside the front door at the La Pine ReStore. You start with a two-page form and after the committee reviews it they let you know the next steps you would have to take in order to qualify.
